Wonder-Land Programs

Our comprehensive programs (described below) include preschool, pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, before and after school programs, and summer programs. Although we understand that children learn and mature through play, we also believe that children are eager to learn and experience information. Because of this commitment, we have created our academic program using the ABEKA curriculum infused with math, writing and rich history, science and Bible Developmental skills. Our teachers have specific goals for each of their classes, and during the school year constantly work to implement and achieve these goals. At each age level the teachers structure the curriculum to foster the development of important basic skills appropriate for that age and stage.

Preschool - Two Year Olds - Chickies

In the two-year old class, the emphasis is on helping and encouraging children to achieve separation from their parent or caregiver. It is also very important at this age for children to learn to transition between activities without becoming upset. During this age, communication skills are encouraged, and this growth allows children to begin to change their play patterns from parallel to cooperative play.

Preschool - Three Year Olds - Bunnies

In the three-year old class, language further develops as children are encouraged to talk about their creations in the block area, describe their art projects, participate in fingerplays, sing songs, and listen at story time with increased understanding. Children learn about math through play and the activities of the classroom. The development of their fine motor skills is an additional goal of the threes. As the three-year-old sense of self becomes stronger, the children become more socially aware and friendships take on new importance.

Pre-Kindergarten - Turtles

A major goal in the four/five-year old class is kindergarten readiness. One of the ways we accomplish this goal is by enhancing the pre-reading skills of the children. Children practice writing their names, and dictate and create class books throughout the year. Math skills are taught through sorting, counting, patterning, number recognition, and comparison through graphing and measurement. Equally important is the growth of emotional development. This is accomplished by providing an environment where children learn to care about one another, embrace diversity, feel part of a larger social group, and value friendships. Periods of free play and exploration are also provided.

Kindergarten - Kinders

With the closure of many public schools, private Kindergarten is an increasingly viable choice over highly impacted public classrooms.  A positive Kindergarten year can impact a child’s academic career for years.  Likewise, a negative experience in early education can set a child up for future failures and negative attitudes towards school.

Wonder-Land Christian School offers a premium kindergarten experience, both academically and developmentally.  Class size is purposely kept small in order to teach to the child’s needs and not to the ‘academic middle’ of the class.  In addition to a strong, well rounded academic curriculum steeped heavily in phonics, math, science and the arts, we believe children are entitled to be children and have their spirits nurtured as well.  Thus, children who are privileged to enroll at WLS, receive that premium education as well as a safe place to mature and grow into the young people God intended.

Before and After School Programs

Wonder-Land School provides a quality Before & After School Program for children in grades K – 6th which services twelve schools in the San Juan Unified School District.  All of our drivers must meet specific qualifications outlined by our insurance carrier, including passing a skills test and providing a clear driving record.  For information regarding the specific schools involved, please contact the office.

The After School Program provides time for your child to unwind utilizing our large playground or full-size gymnasium followed by a nutritious snack.  Also, to help ease your nightly homework battles, we provide a daily homework club with teacher supervision and assistance.  Throughout the afternoon, your child is encouraged to develop relationships, problem-solve and grow based upon his or her own developmental skills through play and craft.  School Age Care is also provided 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. during most San Juan District Holidays and closures.  We also accept drop in children during those times.

Summer Programs

The Summer Program is designed to continue the education of the pre-school classes as well as create a ‘Summer Camp’ environment for all children.  The pre-school campus enjoys daily water play, gardening, and a bit freer schedule for play and art yet still maintains our phonics and math curricular program.  The school age campus program is designed to keep children busy and yet allow them to enjoy all the good things that come with the end of a hard-fought school year.  School age children participate in numerous field trips around the Sacramento area as well as enjoy weekly swim trips to Cottage Park Pool.  In addition, a daily time for Silent Sustained Reading is provided in an effort to keep your child’s reading skills fluent. All children have the opportunity to participate in swimming lessons, gardening activities and morning worship time.
